Structured media allow to manipulate the flow of light with unusual features. Direct-laser-writing technique is a tool of choice to design such complex media. During this talk I will present few examples ranging from fluids of light in complex environments to topologically protected transport and laser filamentation in photonic lattices.

Carbon pyrolysis is a widespread method for synthesizing carbon materials and the development of carbon-based micro electromechanical systems (C-MEMS) has enabled the fabrication of durable, low-cost, and biocompatible microdevices for specific applications. However, graphitic carbons’ unique attributes have attracted worldwide interest in their development and ...

Suppose you wish to aim a laser towards the moon, without hitting satellites in orbit around the Earth -- is that possible? What is the range of possible solutions? This is an example of a *constraint satisfaction* problem (CSP) with continuous variables. A well-known CSP with *discrete* variables is coloring a map such that no two neighbouring countries have the same ...

Despite many decades of attempts, we are still lacking a theory of quantum gravity. That is, we are still looking for a coherent and predictive framework that incorporates both, the standard model of particle physics and general relativity. The problem is much deeper than that of just "quantizing gravity". Unlike in classical physics, measurement is a primit ...

The slowing down of Moore's Law has led to a crisis as the computing workloads of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms continue skyrocketing. There is an urgent need for scalable, energy-efficient hardware catering to the unique requirements of AI algorithms and applications. In this environment, probabilistic computing (p-computing) with p-bits [1] has emerged ...

In this talk, I will present a theory for studying the spectral and the transport properties of mesoscopic systems with a technique known as the quantum network or graph [1]. Specifically, I will consider quantum networks in the presence of Abelian and non-Abelian geometric phases. For the former case, I will consider the orbital contribution of the magnetic field [1, ...

Device simulation plays a major role in the electronics industry reducing development time and cost by replacing costly repetitions of fabrication and benchmarking experiments. The continued miniaturization in the Moore’s law era has led us to devices with atomic scale dimensions requiring quantum mechanical simulation tools for reliable predictive modelin ...
