RÉSUMÉ DR. LORENZO MARTINEZ GOMEZ Dr. Martinez Gomez has developed a career in the fields of Corrosion Control, Pipeline Integrity and Metallurgy. In 1992, he was given the Mexican National Prize of Science and Technology from the President of Mexico and he was appointed permanent member of the Presidential Council of Science and Technology. He received the Latin American Science and Technology Award of the Organization of American States in 1991. In the United States he was awarded with the prestigious JS Guggenheim Fellowship that same year. He also was recipient of the Mexican National University Prize in 1990. Dr. Martinez Gomez served in the Board of Directors of NACE International 2006-2010 and he is member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Materials Research Society and the Project Management Institute.
Dr. Martinez Gomez is currently President of the Board of Directors of Corrosión y Protección serving Mexico, Central America, Ecuador and Houston. CyP is the largest Latin American conglomerate of engineers specialized in corrosion and pipeline integrity having international certification by NACE. Dr. Martínez Gomez in CyP has addressed over 200 engineering projects servicing the region pipeline transportation and distribution systems: Jet fuel pipelines in airports, petroleum transmission and gathering lines, docks, shore pipelines and tank farms. He leaded the instrumentation of the pipeline Operator Qualification Program of PEMEX since 2009. In 2010 he organized the CI3D a 100,000 sq-ft R&D facility dedicated to pipeline testing, innovation and engineering training located in the Science and Technology Park of Morelos. Currently at the CI3D several R&D projects are in progress as well as corrosion testing services, and over 20 engineers are developing a Master Degree in Pipeline Integrity Management Engineering.
In 2014 Corrosion y Proteccion launched the spin off Agromolecular Sustentable de Campeche SAPI owner of 22,000 acres of agricultural land, a venture aimed to grow palm and coconut oil for the emerging massive needs of EOR surfactants for oil fields of the Sonda de Campeche and other in the Gulf of Mexico. These vegetal oils are also aimed to fabricate corrosion inhibitors, other petroleum chemicals, pharmaceuticals and foods.
Dr. Martinez Gomez serves in the NACE International Education Committee and as a researcher at the Institute of Physical Sciences UNAM. He has delivered many international conferences and published over 200 articles and technical papers on corrosion, pipeline integrity, corrosion inhibitors design, surfactants and C-EOR topics. He has also invented products and processes that granted him patents in the United States and Mexico. Due to his scientific and innovation leadership, CONACYT México awarded Dr. Martinez Gomez the very selective distinction of National Researcher of Excellence.
Dr. Martinez Gomez developed his PhD Thesis and a Postdoctoral Fellow Degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University. He has a PhD in Physical Sciences from the National University of Mexico - UNAM.
