“2D Magnetism: Theory and Applications”

“2D Magnetism: Theory and Applications”

The recent discovery of two-dimensional magnetic materials has boosted the search for new quantum physical phenomena at the ultrathin limit. In this seminar, I will give a brief introduction to the actual state of the field and the fundamentals of 2D magnetism. Then, I will show some of the recent advances in the topic such as the stacking-dependent magnetism in chromium trihalides, the tunability of Coulomb interactions via substrate screening effects, or the interlayer magnetic switching in CrI3 induced by magnetic polarons. The rest of the talk will be devoted to showing recent applications and device concepts using magnetic van der Waals heterostructures.
