"Combining models and data for monitoring and control of complex systems"

Complex systems are typically characterized by a high number of different components that are non-trivially interconnected and lead to huge amounts of data. Many times some of the inherent interconnections are unknown, or their explicit consideration in classical modeling approaches leads to high-dimensional models which are not amenable to real-time applications. Monitoring and control schemes for such complex systems thus have to account for these specific problems besides considering classical requirements like robustness, stability and optimality. In this presentation some recent approaches for data-based monitoring and control of complex systems are discussed and illustrated for different areas of application.
